2010 Autumn Series Results
Wangaratta Cycling Club held its annual Tour of Wangaratta on 5th & 6th June with riders contesting 4 events over two days. With over 100 entries the 2010 Tour was the biggest yet with 5 Senior Grades, an Under 15 Grade and 3 Grades of Junior cyclists participating. Race 9 - Ian Bulluss Memorial Handicap Benalla to Wangaratta 65 kms

Wangaratta Cycling Club held its annual Ian Bulluss Memorial Handicap race on Saturday 22nd May racing the 64km from Benalla to Wangaratta via Greta West.
The Town 'n Country Tavern again sponsored the event and presentations were held in the tavern at the conclusion. A field of 64 riders faced the start with the 13 strong limit group heading off 21 minutes before the back markers. At the half way point of the race the limit riders were still together and racing hard with the groups behind steadily gaining ground on them. The back markers had combined with the block group and had closed in to be only 10 minutes from limit and were looking strong as the climb into Glenrowan approached. Riders behind the limit group were starting to group together and as the turn into the Snow Road was made the limit group was down to just 5 riders who were still working hard to stay away for the final few kilometers. The win went to Matthew Grealy from this small group of riders with the fast finishing bunch only 25 seconds behind them. The scratch group finished less than 3 minutes behind the winner with Fastest time going to Tully Lyster from this group. Results: 1st Matthew Grealy 1.46.04, 2nd Wayne Reid, 3rd Paul Burns, 4th Chris Wilkins, 5th Norm Gray, 6th Chris Harrison, 7th Callum Dwyer, 8th Stephen O'Brien, 9th Frank Loki, 10th John Holgate. Fastest Time: Tully Lyster 1.29.21. First unplaced Female rider: Tricia Beasley. Intermediate Sprint at Greta Crossroads: Graham Davison. Awards were made to the first unplaced rider from each bunch: Scratch: Trent Stevenson A: Ian Boyd B: Stephen Field C: Aaron Mills D: Callum Dwyer E: Jim Boehm. Last rider to finish: Graeme Neilsen. Each year the first Wangaratta Cycling Club Member finished is awarded the perpetual Ian Bulluss Shield. The 2010 winner is Stephen O'Brien. The Wangaratta Cycling Club wishes to thank the Bulluss Family for again supporting this event and donating trophies for the winners, thanks also to all the marshals, judges and drivers for their assistance.

Senior riders completing a 52km course taking in a lap of Max's Block through Glenrowan and then a climb over Taminick gap before finishing in Shanley St. Results: A Grade: 1st Tully Lyster 1.19.20, 2nd Christian McDonald, 3rd John Kent. B grade: 1st Ian Boyd 1.19.30, 2nd Mark White, 3rd Geoff Morley. C Grade: 1st Michael Gough 1.26.45, 2nd Paul Lange, 3rd Mick Carmelotti. D Grade: 1st Liam McAlister 1.46.03, 2nd Graeme Neilsen, 3rd Rod Larfield.
Juniors: A GRADE - LAP OF TAMINICK: With several riders away, the race plan changed to be a scratch race with a hill climb at Taminick. There were 4 riders in the race who rode well & were evenly matched. Emma Brown led the way over Taminick Gap, but was caught along Warby Range Road. At the corner of Shanley St & Omaru Road they were still altogether with Kate Boyd taking the hill finish ahead of Emma Brown, Fergus Samon & Kate Brown.
B GRADE - LAP OF TAMINICK IN STAGES - HILL CLIMB & FINISH: Another small field of racers today. Five riders contested the two stage race. Riders left the saleyards before official racing began to be able to race the Taminick loop. They rode as a group through Glenrowan to the Boweya Road- Warby Range Road corner when they started to race. Time was taken from this corner. After powering up the Glenrowan Hill, Rebecca Thompson dropped off on Boweya Road with Thomas Judd. Three riders were together going around the Taminick Road corner until Nicci Clark rode around the other two riders to take the lead up the hill. She was the first to reach the top, with Stephen Damm not too far behind. Thomas Judd was thrilled to reach the top after not making it at his last attempt. Rebecca Thompson made it to the 1km mark as did new rider David Lack. Riders then rode down Taminick to regroup for stage two from the crossroads to the finish. With A Grade juniors hot on their tails, the B Grade riders powered along with Nicci & Rebecca going into the final corner together with Rebecca taking the win ahead of Nicci, Thomas & Stephen.
C GRADE - TO CROSSROADS & RETURN VIA REITH ESTATE FINISH ON OMARU ROAD: With Rob Thompson being the supervising rider, the group of 4 set off staying together until they turned around at the crossroads. At the finish it was Emily White taking the win ahead of Caitlin McAlister, Sammy Thompson & Blake Nixon.
NOVICES -Patrick Henderson was the only novice today & was lucky to have Geoff Clark able to take him out on the road& up to the finish of the junior races. A special thanks to the parents & family who assisted today, there were not enough of you, but all went well.

Wangaratta Cycling Autumn Series commenced on 20th March at the WCC clubrooms. A very good turn up of keen riders competed in fantastic conditions which provided great racing in a slight north-westerly breeze. Racing was 5 x 9 km laps of the Reith's Estate block for A, B & C grade riders, whilst D grade riders completed 4 laps of the near flat course.
A graded was sent on their way with a strong B grade soon after, on the second lap B grade had caught the A grade rider, the commissar quickly separated the two groups and sent A grade on their way again. By the forth lap B Grade once again caught A Grade, only this time passing them on the forth lap along Shanley Street. A strong C & D grade competed with strong racing within their grades.
